Black ACOA and The Struggle for Intimacy

Course Summary:

As with most concepts in psychology and mental health, research has been done
without keeping in mind the unique experiences of Black people. This is especially the
case when it comes to Adult Children of Addiction, Abuse, and Dysfunction
(formerly just Adult Children of Alcoholics). This presentation will focus on the relational difficulties that arise specifically for Black people as a result of a childhood spent in dysfunction, and discuss how to help them heal while trying to function in an environment steeped in anti-Blackness.
